The Pearman Watlington Waterfront development has been given approval by the Development Applications Board (DAB) to construct a new floating dock.

The new fixed dock, with associated floating docks, will create 53 new berths along with a relocated fuel station.

William Cox, President of Waterloo Properties which is developing the site, had previously called the plan "a one stop marine solution".

The dock will be the Island's first full service marina with the combined services of a new gas station and Miles supermarket so boaters can have their boat "gassed and iced".

The marina will be built to the south and east of the property and is the latest of several major marine construction projects.

The area is located at PW's Esso Marina Service Station near Miles market and the Waterloo Inn on Pitt's Bay Road. The application was received on July 27 of last year and revised in May 2 of this year.

The development will see 16 berths for 25 feet vessels, 16 for 30 feet vessels, 11 berths for 40 feet vessels, two berths for 50 feet vessels, and one berth for a 60 feet vessel.

Twenty-three of the berths will be allocated for residential use.

The project is part of the second and final phase of the PW's redevelopment plan in which a fixed break water arm about 278 feet in length extending South will be constructed.

Two nautical style structures that will be built between the floating pumps.

On the eastern most structure a two storey building will be erected. A retail outlet will be located on the first floor while an enclosed viewing pavilion will be built on the second level.

At the southern end there will be a second structure which will include and open roof terrace, toilet facilities, storage and an electrical room.

Fourteen of the marine docks will be built alongside the Waterloo Hotel some 50 feet away from the hotel's sea wall.

Some dredging will take place in a very small area near the sea wall. Technical officers from the DAB had some concerns about the development but later ruled the construction as reasonable.

Recent dock developments include the six figure 100 plus berth dock at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and the nearly completed 60 plus berth dock at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.
