Bermuda Digital Communications - which owns CellularOne - has applied for planning permission to erect three communications antennae on Commissioner's House in Dockyard.

And the company is also seeking to obtain approval to make a communications tower already approved for Town Hill in Smiths, 20 feet higher.

The three antennae planned for Commissioner's House will protrude six feet above the roof of the historic building, however the company has already obtained the blessing of the Maritime Museum trustees to go ahead.

"It is out pleasure to be able to tell you that the board of trustees has no objection to the proposed installation excepting that all fixing materials shall be stainless steel. Your design is simple and elegant," Maritime Museum executive director Dr. Edward Harris wrote to BDC in a letter copied to planning.

However, planning is also consulting with West End Development Company (Wedco), the Ministry of Communications and the Historic Buildings Advisory Committee before deciding on the application.

BDC's second application, if approved, will increase the height of a tower planned for Zuill's Park Lane in Smiths from 40 feet to 60 feet and increase use of the tower's foundation.
