Six drink drivers were fined $1,000 each and banned from Bermuda's roads for one year, yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Steven Lee Corriea, 19, of Chapel of Ease Lane, St. George's, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired on February 17.

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves that Corriea had lost control of his vehicle and he later admitted to officers that he had had a few beers. His breath test revealed that he was 30 points over the legal limit, which is 80 millilitres of alcohol in 100 milligrams of blood.

Shaunelle Renee Crockwell, 20, of Rambling Road, Pembroke, admitted to driving while impaired on February 1 of this year. Mr. Greaves was told Crockwell had been in an accident at the junction of Front Street and Burnaby Hill, Hamilton. Mr. Blackman said that when Police spoke to her they could smell alcohol on her breath. She was taken to the Hamilton Police station where a breath test indicated that she had 146 millilitres of alcohol in her blood, almost twice the legal limit.

Devonshire resident Christopher Winslow Darrell, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and to stealing a motorcycle valued at $800. The court heard that Police caught Darrell, 19, of Fairhaven Lane, after he had stolen the motorcycle and was pushing it along Parsons Road. Upon being spotted, he dropped the bike and ran off but was later captured by officers.

Mr. Greaves hit him with a $1,000 fine for drunk driving and an additional $1,000 fine for stealing the motorcycle, or 90 days in prison for each offense.

Twenty-four-year-old William Helander also plead guilty to driving while impaired.

Helander, of First Avenue, Devonshire, refused to take a breath test after officers said they saw him swerving on his motorcycle.

Randall Hall, 20, of Texas Road, St. George's was stopped in St. George's after having left the Bay Club. His lowest breath test revealed that he was almost three times over the legal limit, with his lowest reading being 209 millilitres of alcohol.

Sean William Lamb was caught at the Tiger Mart Esso gas station on Par la Ville Road, in Hamilton. Mr. Blackman said before Lamb pulled into the station officers had seen him swerving, and when he tried to put the bike on the stand he fell over.

The court heard that Lamb's reading was over twice the legal limit at 190 millilitres of alcohol in his blood.
