A heroin addict who stole several bottles of liquor has been jailed for three months in Magistrates' Court.

Christopher Robinson, 33, of no fixed abode, on Friday pleaded guilty to stealing five bottles of booze from A1 Supermarket, by putting them all in his pockets.

He said: “I was going to sell them so that I could by drugs.”

Duty counsel Peter Farge suggested that Robinson could either be sent to drugs court, because he has been a drug addict for eight years or be fined.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves, after looking at Robinson's previous convictions said: “No, he is not a candidate because he has been involved in violent crime. Also he has been a wretch long before he said that he became addicted to drugs.”

Mr. Greaves told Robinson that he could get help in prison for his drug problem.

But Robinson said: “You said that the last time I was here and it's not so.”

Mr. Greaves asked him: “Well why did you come again and get handed down a sentence of three months?”
