Environment in spotlight today
Minister of the Environment Neletha Butterfield has called on the people of Bermuda to recognise World Environment Day today.
In a statement to the House on Friday, she explained that the purpose of the day is to focus worldwide attention on environmental issues and promote active engagement of communities in these.
"Although Bermuda's environment is relatively healthy compared with some other jurisdictions, we cannot afford to be complacent." she said. "
She invited all members of the House to celebrate World Environment Day.
"Walk along a beach, ride along the Railway Trail, visit one of our National Parks or even take a swim in our crystal clear waters. I remind Honourable Members that even such a small action has enormous symbolic significance," she said.
