A man who escaped Police custody after being arrested on a variety of warrants was jailed for three months yesterday.

Shannon Tucker, 27, of Smith's Parish, pleaded with Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves for mercy, but was sent down after running away from Police earlier this week.

Prosecutor Shade Subair told Magistrates' Court that Tucker appeared in court on Tuesday after being arrested for the warrants, and was being taken back to Hamilton Police Station when he took off.

She said he was handcuffed to another prisoner, but managed to slip his wrist out of the cuff and run.

He was pursued by officers, but was not caught. However, the next day, he turned himself back into Police.

The court heard how Tucker had previous convictions for violently resisting arrest and escaping custody.

The father-of-four said: "The only reason I did it was to get the money. As soon as I got enough money to pay off the fines, I turned myself in.

"I have been in trouble before, but for the last couple of years I have been in no trouble. I have straightened my life right out."

Tucker also said two of his children were with him when he was arrested for the warrants, , and he had to make sure they were OK.

He added: "I have tried my hardest to do what's right. I turned myself in. You have my word, I will never do it again.

"Please, your Honour, can I have just one more chance. Please, have mercy on me."

But Mr. Greaves said he had no choice but to imprison Tucker.

He said: "I'm not going to fine you this time, I'm going to time you.

"The best I can do for you is reduce it to three months. I have been merciful on you. I reduced it from six months to three months."
