Two people have come forward to help after reading of the plight of a woman and her son who were spending their nights sleeping in their car.

The Royal Gazette reported on the family's situation on Saturday and yesterday members of the community reached out to help.

A real estate agent came to the newspaper and offered the woman a place to live while another man rang up to offer her temporary accommodation.

The woman, who has asked not to be named, said: "I am so happy that we might have somewhere to live. I can't wait until I can go home and watch TV, or cook or sew.

"At least I can go home at night after work."

The woman and her 16-year-old son have been sleeping rough for the last six months since the courts ordered them to leave their home, because it was uninhabitable.

They sleep in her brother's car but she said: "I just want to have a place to call home."
