Family's terror ordeal at hands of masked robbers

Gun-toting robbers attacked and robbed a family in their Pembroke home after threatening them with knives.

Four men burst into the Curving Avenue home at 7.20 p.m. on Thursday. The 19-year-old resident was in the home with a friend and her uncle. Three of the men wore masks, one carried a knife and another had a gun.

They demanded money and when the uncle resisted they pushed him to the ground and kicked him in the head before taking cash off him and escaping after the 19-year-old's friend called for help.

While the uncle was being attacked his niece was held at knifepoint while the robbers repeated their demand for money.

The masked culprits were all around five foot six inches tall - two wore red sweat tops with hoods.

The unmasked culprit was of similar height, fair skinned, thin, with hair braided at the front and an afro at the back.

The uncle suffered cuts and bruises and needed hospital treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who saw the four men at the junction of Happy Valley and Curving Avenue between 8.30 and 9 p.m on Thursday night to call central CID on 295 0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1 800 623 8477.

In a seperate incident, a hooded man burst into Elroy's Laundromat in Berkeley Road, Pembroke on Thursday afternoon and ran off with $650 cash.

The victim was talking to a customer when the robber walked past before running out moments later.

The suspect is described as being between five foot five inches and five foot eight inches tall with short hair and medium brown skinned. He was wearing a dark coat with stripes or plaid design.
