The four surviving quintuplets born to Bermudians Troy and Robin Smith celebrated their tenth birthday on Saturday with a party at Pembroke playground.

Proud mom Robin Smith told The Royal Gazette the four were in high spirits in anticipation of their party where roughly 70 to 80 of their friends gathered for food, games and fun castle antics.

A few surprises were also planned for the two boys - Makiri and Dakuri - and their two sisters Marjani and Raziya over the course of the day.

Bermuda's quintuplets were born on October 27, 1991 to international fame - with reports of their birth covered by the Associated Press and television stations ABC and CNN.

The five youngsters were delivered by Caesarean section at Howard University hospital in Washington, D.C.

They were welcomed home by Bermudians offering financial assistance to help the young family meet their new financial burdens.

None of the tiny children weighed more than four pounds at birth but four thrived into healthy youngsters.

Sadly, their one brother, tiny Makesi Kamal Parris Smith succumbed to an illness at age 21 months.

Before the widespread use of fertility drugs, the frequency of multiple births like the Smith quints ranged for one in 25 million to one in 85 million.
