Government is coping with extra transport demands caused by mega-cruise ships, says transport consultant Larry Jacobs.

The Royal Gazette has been told Tuesday's Hamilton to Dockyard ferry was overloaded with tourists returning to Millennium, which brought in 1,900 passengers.

But Mr. Jacobs said extra ferries were being run to cope with the demand.

And he said Government was also prepared for next week when three huge ships will be in Dockyard between Tuesday and Saturday.

The QE2 and the Grandeur of the Seas will both bring 2,000 passengers each on Tuesday while the Carnival Legend with bring the same number on Thursday.

Meyer Agencies shipping manager Joe Simas said there had been no complaints from passengers about transport.

However one passenger on Tuesday's 6.15 p.m. ferry said it appeared overloaded and low in the water.

Mr Simas said numbers were carefully monitored as people get on the ferry.

And Mr. Jacobs said: "As to this ferry being overloaded, if it was overloaded, we feel we run sufficient ferries."
