United Bermuda Party leaderDr. Grant Gibbons was Finance Minister in the last UBP government and is a former senator and Minister of Management and Technology.

An academic high-flier, he studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, then was awarded a Phd in organic chemistry at Harvard University.

He taught at Harvard for two years, and between 1982 and 1987 he was a manager of the Squibb Corporation in the US. He returned to Bermuda in 1987 as a director of the Gibbons Company and Peniston Brown.

He holds directorships in various Gibbons Group companies and the Bank of Bermuda, and is deputy chairman of Colonial Insurance. He is a founder and managing partner of venture capital company Wired Atlantic and a partner in private equity firm Amerscan Wired Atlantic.

He was appointed UBP campaigns manager in 1993 as is credited with ensuring victory in the election that year. Former Premier Sir John Swan appointed him to the Senate in 1994 and was made Minister of Management and Technology, overseeing the closure of the British, US and Canadian bases and their transfer to Bermuda.

Dr. Gibbons was elected to the House of Assembly for Paget East in a by election in July 1994 and re-appointed to his former Cabinet portfolio.

He became Shadow Finance Minister in 1998 when the UBP lost the election and became UBP leader in October 2001.

A former second vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, he is also a member of the American Chemical Society, the New York Academy of Science, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He is married to Kathryn, and they have two children, Graham and Andrew.

Delaey Robinson was MP for the former St. George's North until parliament was dissolved and is chairman of the Tourism Board.

Prior to his election in 1998, he was Government's Chief Budget Officer, working, ironically, for Dr. Gibbons.

He comes from a staunchly political family. His mother was one of the founding members of the Bermuda Workers Association, the fore-runner to the Bermuda Industrial Union, and was a member of Dr. E.F. Gordon's 'kitchen cabinet'.

His brother Cecil Clarke was an MP, and his father was Secretary to the Corporation of St. George's. Raised in Pembroke, and at Hillcrest, St. George's, he was educated at Francis Patton Primary, and St. George's Secondary before continuing his schooling in England. He also attended Queen's University, in Ontario, Canada.

Two years after entering public service, Mr. Robinson went travelling the world for five years. He spent six months in West Africa and similar amounts of time in the Pacific Islands, and he worked in the political branch of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress in Southeast Asia and on the Indian sub-continent.

He is married to Andrea C.E. Dismont and they have three children.
