Magistrate Edward King gave a 34-year-old Warwick man the maximum monetary penalty for possession of cannabis when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.

And he told Austin Butterfield of Wellman Lane, Warwick, that having 20.25 grams of cannabis was “astronomical” and he was lucky to not be charged with possession with intent to supply.

Butterfield admitted having the cannabis on December 18. Because Butterfield has no previous convictions and supports his five children Mr. King fined him $1,000.

Marina planned

Workers at Renaissance Reinsurance's East Broadway office building will be able to dock their boats at a floating marina extending into the water.

Colin Smith, the Director of the Villa Development Company, which owns the waterfront property, said construction will begin once the Department of Planning grants their approval.

The marina is expected to provide 22 spots for recreational water vehicles. The length and date of construction of the marina is also subject to planning approval.

Bag snatched

A thief snatched a handbag with $200 from two tourists on Saturday.

The visitors were standing by their hire bike outside St. Theresa's Cathedral in Hamilton on Saturday evening when the thief drove past on a dark coloured motorcycle and stole the purse from the basket of the bike.

The male visitor chased the thief but was unable to catch him.
