The Road Safety Council will be holding a forum on May 19 to specifically address safety issues related to the Island?s biggest users ? fleet and commercial vehicles.

The council is hosting Bermuda?s first-ever ?Fleet Safety Forum?.

It is expected to draw 80 local and overseas participants.

BRSC chairman Dr. Joseph Froncioni said: ?The upcoming forum is an opportunity to dialogue with fleet service providers about critical issues relating to large or heavy commercial and public service vehicles.

?The fleet vehicles make up a significant proportion of road users and large or heavy vehicles, in particular, pose a potentially greater road hazard than private vehicles.

?Our aim is to bring together the Island?s major fleet operators, both from the private and public sector and discuss some of the progressive changes that are occurring regarding fleet safety.?

According to the press release, the forum will involve lectures and panel discussions from eight speakers both from Government and the private sector.

An occupational road safety expert from the UK is also expected to speak.

Topics that will be discussed include: formulating occupational safety strategies; assessing work related road risks; monitoring and auditing work related road incidents; driver training and competency; insurance issues; GPS applications to fleet management; and, drugs and alcohol in the work place.

The forum will be held in the Chairman Suites of the ACE Building.
