'Full steam' ahead for Club Med plans

Government is pushing full-steam ahead with attempts to close a deal regarding the old Club Med site in St. George?s, those attending a meeting of the Corporation of St. George?s heard recently.

St. George?s Mayor E. Michael Jones told residents the plans call for the destruction of the massive and derelict Club Med building.

Instead, a small group of cottage-type buildings ?in keeping with our town? will be built. ?The structure on the hill will go. It is being removed.?

And, as is becoming more and more common in the hotel industry these days, part of the development will include residential condos, he said. ?People don?t just build hotels anymore.?

The plans call for about 100 rooms, including accommodations for ?semi-permanent residents? similar to the St. George?s Club.
