Garage fire probed

A three-vehicle blaze drew fire crews to Terceira's Gas Station on North Shore Road on Thursday night.

Fire Service and Police are investigating the cause of the fire but station owner Malcolm Terceira said children had been playing around the cars and were thought to have started a fire in one of the vehicles.

That blaze then spread to the others, he said.

The cars were being kept on the second storey of a garage on Terceira's property.

"We're very fortunate it wasn't more serious," said Mr. Terceira.

He added that "very extensive" damage had been done to the two cars and one light van that went up in flames.

"It was a combination of in-storage and available for parts vehicles," said Mr. Terceira.

Eleven Fire Service personnel responded to the blaze at 8.36 p.m. on Thursday with three appliances.

"The Fire Service response was excellent," said Mr. Terceira. "It was very quickly contained."
