Starting next Monday, people will be able to pay parking ticket fines during their lunch hour.

The cashiers? window at Magistrates? Court is to remain open from 1p.m. to 2.15 p.m., starting on September 13. Only fines and child support payments will be able to be paid at that time however, as only cashiers will be on duty during the lunch period. Those with queries relating to such payments or other matters can find answers to their questions during normal working hours.

The change, according to Attorney General and Justice Minister Larry Mussenden, implements in part recommendations from the Justice Review Committee Report. Mr. Mussenden said he welcomed the move and congratulated staff at Magistrates? Court for their commitment to the public.

Mr. Mussenden is also continuing talks with Chief Justice Richard Ground on the installation of an ATM machine in the Magistrates? Court lobby, as well as the use of debit and credit card machines. He hoped the improvements would result in a decrease in fines owed to Magistrates? Court, and encouraged those who believe they do owe money to contact either the court or Police Prosecutions to address the issue.
