Fabian continues to threaten lives even five days on, with the Island hit by a rash of accidents related to the post-hurricane clean up operation.

A Hamilton man was hit by a falling concrete block being used to hold down a tarpaulin, another man broke a collar-bone falling off a roof and a member of the Bermuda Regiment fell 20 feet from a tree.

In yesterday's most serious incident, a 46-year-old man was struck on the back of the neck and knocked unconscious outside Tiffany's Twenty Four (7) on Court Street at 10.15 a.m. by a concrete block being used to hold down tarpaulin on the damaged building.

It is understood that it fell after a worker on the roof slipped.

Store owner Tiffany McKoy has been to visit the victim in hospital where he told her he was "suffering severe discomfort" but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Ms McKoy said the details were not yet clear but the man was a regular customer at the store and she confirmed that the block came from the roof of her building where her relatives were working to repair the damage sustained over the weekend.

In an another incident, a 42-year-old was rushed to hospital at 11.45 a.m.after he fell from a roof on Mcgall's Hill.

He was later discharged with a broken collar-bone.

Meanwhile on Monday, a Bermuda Regiment soldier had a lucky escape after falling 20 feet while working on tree clearing operations near the Public Transport Headquarters in Devonshire.

At 3.30 p.m. a branch gave way in the tree he was working on, sending the soldier plummeting to the ground.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution but sustained no serious injuries despite the height of his fall and is now at home recovering.

Police last night urged members of the public to exercise extra caution when working on house and business repairs.

"We would urge people to take particular care, particular when working on roofs," said spokesman Dwayne Caines.
