Over 160 golfers from some of the largest corporations in Bermuda will team up this week to raise funds for the new Cancer Resource Centre.

To celebrate 200 years of business, Schroders (Bermuda) Limited has teamed up with the Bermuda TB, Cancer and Health Association to organise the Charity Golf Classic being held this Friday at Belmont Hills Golf Club.

"This is the first time we have been involved with such a tremendous fund-raising initiative," organiser and Schroders' director of operations Gary Carr said.

"It's very exciting and the entire staff have been very supportive. We are especially grateful to the Belmont Hills Golf Club, whose staff and management have given us great support," he said.

Schroders anticipates raising over $150,000 from the tournament.

The tournament is a four ball/best ball format with a morning and an afternoon shotgun start.

Prizes will be awarded for team play, closest to the pin, longest drive for men and women as well as other events.

And a former PGA trick shot specialist will be on hand.

"Schroders is both pleased and very proud to support a cause as important as the fight against cancer," company president Peter Everson said.

"We are committed to charity and have always encouraged and supported our staff with their involvement in charitable events. This promises to be a great tournament and I am extremely pleased that we are a part of it."

Judy Siddle-Simons, president of the Bermuda TB, Cancer and Health Association, Simons said they were also looking forward to the tournament.

"It is a fundraising event that we have wanted to hold for quite some time and we are very grateful that Schroders are sponsoring it," she said.

"Our new Cancer Resource Centre was created as a result of the generosity of many local individuals and companies. The funds raised from this event will allow us to continue to offer more improved services in our ongoing fight against cancer in Bermuda."
