Finance Minister Eugene Cox tabled over half a million dollars worth of supplementary expenditure in the House of Assembly yesterday.

The lion's share - $313,500 - was accounted for by the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs in connection with Bermuda's participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington D.C. earlier this year, and plans to restage it here.

Over $172,000 are for overtime charges incurred by the Police Service and Customs and wages for regiment soldiers. Government had warned of extra costs associated with responding to the September 11 attacks.

As US airspace shut down, Bermuda made its airport available to receive diverted aircraft.

The entire regiment was deployed for the better part of the week following September 11 to bolster security at key areas around the Island.

The Regiment had also been deployed to assist with clean up efforts after a Hurricane Karen.

Also included in the accounting for the Supplementary estimates are overtime charges of $3,440 incurred by the Public Transportation Board and close to $78,000 for professional services for Marine and Ports Services.
