A technical officer from the Ministry of Telecommunications has been asked to look into transmission problems at VSB television, The Royal Gazette has learned.

The station has been experiencing technical problems since a lightning strike damaged some of its equipment earlier this summer.

Yesterday, Telecommunications Director Greg Swan said the Ministry has received a number of complaints about the quality of the station's signal.

"Most of the complaints were received while CableVision was out," he added.

A technical officer has been assigned to assess the problem and determine a course of action as a result, Mr. Swan said.

VSB owner Kenny Defontes told The Royal Gazette the station is also currently researching the problem. But Mr. Defontes refused to speak more specifically about what will be done to improve transmission quality.

"We're reviewing it right now and will be in a better position to talk about it in a week to ten days," he said.

Local television providers are subject to certain requirements under their licensing agreements with Government, Mr. Swan said.

"They are required to put out a signal at a certain power outlet," he said. But, he added it was too early to determine whether VSB was in any breach of its licence.
