Government has organised public buses and trucking companies to fill in for striking taxis. Transport Minister Ewart Brown has also urged ?all Bermudians to lend their assistance where it is needed?. Below is an outline of those plans:

The Public Transportation Board (PTB) will send buses as needed at the airport and larger hotels.

Trucking companies will be deployed to move luggage.

Existing airport limousines may be deployed if required, as well as mini-buses.

Hotels will be advised to use their vans or private cars, if required. Dr. Brown added: ?Taxis that continue to work will be given top priority to move arriving visitors, with buses and other vehicles standing by for possible deployment.?

If the strike extends into the late evening on weekends, additional public buses will be laid on until 2 a.m. on main routes.

Bus tours may be suspended, to ensure there are enough buses for airport service.

?Extra buses, if available, will be placed in service on routes that might receive high visitor usage,? Dr. Brown said, ?particularly those destinations that taxis might normally serve.?
