A member of the Opposition raised concerns about Government not being able to find Bermudians to fill jobs.

?One day I looked down at the Airport and saw all Bermudians ? the PLP came into power and now there are none,? said Maxwell Burgess, Shadow Minister of Labour, Home Affairs, and Public Safety.

Other examples he gave of places where there are very few local employees were Marine and Ports, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and the Bermuda College.

He praised the efforts of outgoing president of the College, Dr. Michael Orenduff, but said: ?Its been three years and once again we search for a foreigner.?

Mr. Burgess became impassioned when pointing out the situation at Westgate Correctional Facility, saying: ?It is unacceptable that the PLP can?t find Bermudians to run the Prison Service. They?ve had five years to find a Bermudian,? he said.

A review into the management of the Department of Corrections called for a removal of the top three officials. Minister of Labour, Home Affairs, and Public Safety, Randolph Horton said a few weeks ago that he would probably make a decision by the end of this month. It was expected that he would announce his decision in the House of Assembly on Friday but it never came.

Mr. Horton said: ?If he (Mr. Burgess) doesn?t appreciate that it takes time, so be it.?

Mr. Horton said last night he wouldn?t make a decision on the matter for at least two weeks.

Mr. Burgess said last week that the PLP?s idea of Bermudianisation is: ?Once you get here, we?ll call you a Bermudian.?

The Minister of Tourism and E-Commerce, Renee Webb, said in response to the criticism of the PLP not finding qualified Bermudians: ?It is an hypocrisy. We hire non-Bermudians but they (UBP) hire them in their establishments.?

She added: ?We know we have more jobs than Bermudians to fill them.?

It is a given that we all support Bermudians in this country, she said.
