Governor?s car wrecked in smash

A 43-year old man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he crashed the Governor of Bermuda?s official car into a pillar shortly after 5 a.m. yesterday.

The single vehicle collision occurred at the junction of White Sands and Middle Roads in Paget. Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said the driver had been travelling east down the hill when it appeared he lost control of the vehicle, veering into the west-bound lane and striking a pillar.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence at Hamilton Police Station.

The front end of the Governor?s car suffered ?extensive damage?, said Mr. Caines.
