A groundskeeper for the new Tucker's Point Club in Hamilton Parish was battling possibly life-threatening injuries last night after he accidentally drove off an embankment on a lawnmower.

The accident occurred at roughly 11 a.m. and other club workers rushed to the aid of the 49-year-old Hamilton Parish man.

Tucker's Point public relations and marketing manager Cathy Frith said the injured man and a number of other employees were mowing the property's golf course when the accident occurred.

The injured man was using a ride-on mower, when he went over the bank, plummeting over five feet.

The mower landed on top of the man, The Royal Gazette was told, and he is thought to have sustained broken ribs and other chest injuries.

Ms Frith said one of the first workers on the scene - the club's director of golf - is a volunteer firefighter and trainer EMT and he performed CPR on the worker.

The injured man was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance where he remained in critical condition yesterday afternoon.

The full extent of his injuries was not yet known, Ms Frith said, the company sent representatives to the hospital in to keep an eye on the worker's condition and support the family.

Ms Frith said that the injuries were “very critical” and doctors were struggling to stabilise the injured man before operating.

She said the hospital was unable to give any further details about the man's injuries because doctors had been unable to carry out a CAT scan.
