Halloween hooligans thwarted by discovery of rotten egg arsenal
Hooligans hoping to cause a stink on Halloween have been foiled by Police who seized 56 boxes of eggs.
Police found the smelly stash in bushes next to Horseshoe Bay last Thursday, and believe local louts were planning to throw them at homes, vehicles and people on October 31.
The eggs were taken to Marsh Folly yesterday and smashed by Police to make sure no one gets their hands on them.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines revealed the eggs were ready to go off because they had been left out in the sun and would have been in a rancid condition by next week.
And he asked shopkeepers and parents to be vigilant if kids seek to buy large quantities of eggs or other food which could be thrown on Halloween.
Mr. Caines reminded would-be trouble-makers that it is an offence to throw missiles or behave in a disorderly manner, and offenders would be taken to court.
Large numbers of Police will be out in force on Halloween to try to curb rowdy youngsters.
“Halloween is traditionally a period when hooligans head for the street to throw items like eggs,” said Mr. Caines.
“Generally, they throw eggs at passing motorists, housing, and even the Police. Throwing missiles of any kind is an offence under the Summary Offences Act 1926 and anyone throwing any missiles or indulging in unacceptable behaviour will be places before the courts.
“Shop owners as well as parents need to make smart choices when handing out eggs. If a young person comes in asking for a large quantity of eggs, they should exercise good judgement to ensure the safety of us all.
“If they see or hear of any untoward activities, they should contact the Police. Police will have a very active presence on Halloween to ensure the safety of the community.”
