Hamilton Princess wins eco-award
An environmental team from one of the Island's hotels has won an all-expenses-paid snowboarding trip to Alberta.
Every year environmental committees from each of the Fairmont group of hotels around the world come up with ways to assist the environment and their communities by developing new green initiatives.
The Fairmont Hamilton Princess staff entered and won in the hardwood category of Environmental Hotel of the Year 2002.
In April, the team of eight will go to The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel for an all-expenses-paid eco-visit to see how their colleagues at Banff helped the environment.
The Fairmont Hamilton Princess team recycled magazines, papers, linens, bedspreads and eyeglasses to win the competition.
The team also took part in The Visitor Industry Clean Up Day, May 24th Heritage Day Parade, 2002 Marine Clean Up Day, 3k/5k Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and a Pembroke playground clean up initiative.
