Drugs are not the answer for children's behavioural problems according to a visiting child health specialist

Dr. Lance Webb, a qualified chiropractor, acupuncturist and anti-ageing specialist from Chicago, Illinois, is currently on the Island giving a series of talks on a number of health issues.

Dr. Webb, who also specialises in treating behavioural disorders in children, said there were many other ways that children who suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) could be treated.

"The current medicines like Ritalin cause a further imbalance and toxicity of the neuro-transmitters," he said.

He suggested instead that children can be suffering from allergies to food, diary and sugar - and that removing some or one of these can help. There is also a question of whether or not the child has had enough sleep.

"The are homeopathic solutions for these diseases that do not have side affects," he said.

Dr. Webb spoke of improving children's IQ levels and asks exactly what is intelligence.

He said: "There are 11 forms of intelligence and it is not all about being academic. You have to question how does a child get along with their peers and how do they solve life's problems."

Dr. Webb last night gave a lecture on how to correct children's learning and behavioural disorders at the Choral Room in CedarBridge Academy.

Tonight he will be holding a male virility workshop at the same venue. The workshop starts at 7 p.m. and costs $5.

The workshop will deal with issues such as the causes of male impotency, how to increase male virility and how to maintain a healthy prostate gland.
