The US Department of Agriculture sent out a Recall Letter for Oscar Mayer Chicken Breast Strips because of possible Listeria Contamination, which can cause an uncommon, but potentially fatal disease listeriosis.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, as well as causing some miscarriages and stillbirths.

Healthy individuals are rarely affected, however, it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Department of Health officers have overseen the destruction of several cases of the fully cooked Oscar Meyer/Louis Rich chicken products. As a further precaution, the Department of Health has asked the public to check their refrigerators for the following chicken products that are known to have been shipped to Bermuda: six-ounce packages of ?Oscar Meyer/Louis Rich Chicken Breast Strips with the item numbers 55720 and 55721.

The public is being asked to return the chicken product to the place of purchase.
