Heavy rains cause floods

The Bermuda Fire Service was called to several incidents of flooding in the West End after a heavy rain drenched the Island on Saturday afternoon.

Water from the roadway ran into a Sound View Road, Sandys home and affected three rooms including the living room, bathroom and kitchen.

The damage was blamed on clogging from an outdoor drain and the heavy downpour and the water was removed with a water vacuum.

The basement of a private home was flooded with a foot of water that was eventually pumped out of the Bay Lane, Somerset home.

Flooding occurred at the Somerset Police Station with a quarter inch of water being removed from one prisoners cell in a building in the rear of the compound. The Southampton Glebe School also experienced flooding because of the heavy downfall.
