Holmes gets the boot from Batman
Q: I read somewhere that they are making another Batman movie. Is Katie Holmes going to be in it? ¿ J.F.
A: No. Holmes, who got lukewarm reviews for her performance in Batman Begins, isn't appearing again as Rachel Dawes. In the next Batman instalment, called The Dark Knight, Maggie Gyllenhaal will step into the part of Rachel.
Q: I saw a picture of drummer Tommy Lee with Rod Stewart's daughter. Are they dating? Isn't he old enough to be her father? ¿ R.S.
A: Technically, yes. Kimberly Stewart, 27, and Lee, 44, definitely have been seen in romantic poses around Hollywood, a place where May-December relationships are hardly novel.
Q: I can't believe all of Britney Spears' crazy behaviour. Why is she allowed to do this to her children? ¿ K.F.
A: Spears' increasingly erratic behaviour ¿ even when her two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston, are around ¿ has pretty much alarmed everyone around her. And her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, isn't looking away. Apparently, he refused to sign joint-custody papers and intends to go for sole custody of their sons, believing that Spears isn't a fit parent to raise them. Undeniably, this will get ugly.
Q: I think actress Amanda Bynes from Hairspray is so beautiful. Does she have anything else coming out? ¿ A.E.
A: Yes; she stars in the upcoming comedy Sydney White, a retelling of the Snow White story set in the current world of college freshmen. It's due out in theatres next year.
Q: I just saw Hairspray and thought the actor who played Seaweed was fantastic. What is he doing next? ¿ M.H.
A: The actor in question, Elijah Kelley, a superlative dancer / singer / actor, is set to take on a very different role in his next film ¿ that of a student undergoing the hellish initiation rites of a fraternity in the drama Burning Sands. It goes into production in October.
Q: I just saw the movie Inside Man and thought Jodie Foster was so good. Is she going to be in any new movies? ¿ F.T.
A: She co-stars in the upcoming crime drama The Brave One, with Naveen Andrews and Terrence Howard, is currently filming the family adventure Nim's Island, with Gerard Butler and Abigail Breslin, and is due to co-star with Robert De Niro in and direct the drama Sugarland.
Q: Is the Wayne Palmer character coming back to 24 next season? I like the actor who plays him. ¿ D.W.
A: There's no definite word yet on whether Palmer, as played by actor D.B. Woodside, will emerge from the coma in which he ended the season. What is known is that there will be a new president, played by actress Cherry Jones, and that Woodside is in the new CBS series Viva Laughlin, which would limit his availability. But since any character who doesn't die on screen might reappear later, Wayne Palmer could put in an appearance at a later date if the plot requires it.
Q: Is Geena Davis doing anything since her TV show was cancelled? ¿ L.P.
A: The actress, whose cancelled show Commander in Chief obviously showcased a female president before 24's upcoming one, is in talks to replace Mandy Patinkin after his abrupt exit from the series Criminal Minds. As we go to print, she's being mentioned as the front-runner.
Q: Jim Carrey doesn't seem to be doing too much lately. Does he have any new movies coming out? ¿ H.R.
A: He's currently filming the animated classic Horton Hears a Who, with Steve Carell, and is preparing to shoot the comedy Yes Man in October, to be followed by a new version of A Christmas Carol, in which he'll play Scrooge. Following that, he has plans for a drama based on the life of Robert Ripley, founder of Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Q: I'm surprised. Why is Paula Zahn leaving CNN? ¿ K.I.
A: The usual reason: ratings. Zahn joined the cable network with great fanfare in 2001, but her 8 p.m. (US) show has been slaughtered by Bill O'Reilly's show on Fox News. Apparently, the network executives think former Weekend Today anchor and NBC News reporter Campbell Brown will shake things up. We'll know more when she takes to the air in November.
