Homeless lunch draws 73 people
The Eliza Dolittle Society catered to 73 homeless people yesterday in their annual Thanksgiving lunch.
Chairperson of the Society, Margaret Vaucrosson said this year as in the past, they were catering for 50 people but that they were able to accommodate the additional 23.
Those who came were treated to a hot turkey lunch with all the trimmings and also received a bag containing soup, a sandwich and a cookie to take away with them.
A host of local businesses helped in the effort. MarketPlace donated sandwiches while the Supermart gave desserts of pumpkin and apple pie. Cookies came courtesy of Cafe Paradiso while Barritt?s provided water, juices and sodas. The event was made possible with the help of Meals on Wheels, an anonymous contribution and about eight volunteers.
Mrs. Vaucrosson said the day was a success and that the Society is still aiming to provide daily meals for the Island?s homeless population.
