Hotel aims for health market
Cambridge Beaches is hoping to attract winter visitors by offering wellness breaks at the Sandys resort.
And it is urging the Island?s health practitioners to get in touch to see what kind of programmes it can offer to visitors in day and evening classes.
Cambridge Beaches president Michael Winfield said the hotel also wanted to hear from people who could offer cultural lectures to augment the wellness programme he hopes to establish this autumn and winter.
The hotel has advertised for people specialising in things such as yoga, diet and weight control, Pilates, smoking cessation and meditation.
Other destinations offer tailor-made health breaks and Mr. Winfield said these would be ideal for Bermuda.
And he believes wellness breaks he is hoping to establish in Cambridge would be unique in Bermuda.
Mr. Winfield said he wants to attract Island-based experts to save the expense and immigration hassle of bringing in people from overseas.
?We?ve resolved that to attract visitors in winter we need to offer more non-weather-related activities,? he told yesterday.
?Four years ago we spent a great deal of money creating a significant spa and indoor facilities and we want to use that facility to offer a wide range of activities that may be available from local expertise.
?There is a lot going on in Bermuda from reiki to yoga and counselling, but there is no organisation representing them all, hence this somewhat unusual advert. People in other destinations go away for wellness breaks and do things like go into four feet of snow.?
He added: ? I am hoping that the resources are available on the Island and that we can tap into that, so the advert is saying to people here: ?What do you do, and are you doing anything that might well work here?.
?We know the breadth of things offered outside Bermuda, but also I am led to believe there are a lot of resources on the Island, but they are just not advertised.
?We believe that what we are offering is unique. For years the hoteliers and government have been saying we need to attract more people in the winter, and four or five years ago Cambridge puts its money where its mouth is with the spa.?
