An illegal immigrant who was ordered to return to his native Jamaica earlier this week has been allowed out of jail until he flies off the Island next Monday.

Donald Reid was arrested during a Police and immigration raid on a house in Union Street last Friday. He was accused of staying on the Island illegally between March and October this year, and admitted to the court that he had been hustling to make money.

Reid said he had the means to leave Bermuda, without being deported, and was given permission to do so this week.

However, yesterday he was brought back before the court because he had been unable to book a flight as early as hoped, due to the hurricane conditions in Jamaica.

Magistrate Edward King allowed Reid to remain at a friend's house, Raffael Barnett, in St. Monica's Road, Pembroke, until he leaves for the UK, and then onto Jamaica on Monday night.

He was ordered to report to the Hamilton Police Station every day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., and to report to immigration at the Bermuda International Airport by 6 p.m. on Monday.
