Immigration officer suspended as cash goes missing
An Immigration officer has been suspended after money went missing from the Department, it was confirmed last night.
Labour and Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Robert Horton said Police had been called in to investigate the missing cash.
Mr. Horton would not confirm how much money was missing, but said the officer who was suspended on Monday was a female and she worked at headquarters in Hamilton.
The alleged theft was uncovered last Tuesday and Mr. Horton said he wrote to the Secretary of the Cabinet requesting the woman be suspended, and this took place on Monday. ?Some financial irregularities were discovered and as a result of this I have written to the Secretary of the Cabinet requesting the suspension of a member of staff who had responsibilities for activities in that area and the matter is being investigated by the Police,? said Mr. Horton.
