Impaired driver taken off road
A man who admitted driving while more than two-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit was fined and banned from the road yesterday.
Dinis Rocha, a 30-year-old construction worker, pleaded guilty to impaired driving at Magistrates? Court yesterday with the assistance of a Portuguese interpreter.
Crown Counsel Carrington Mahoney told the court that Police saw Rocha at 3.15 a.m. on May 28 as he was driving his motorcycle along Front Street. The defendant was swerving from side to side, and when he continued on to Crow Lane and crossed the central reservation, the Police pulled him over. A test later revealed he had 207 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 80.
Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $800 and banned him from driving for 12 months.
