Island exposed ? in adult mag

They say there?s no such thing as bad publicity but Tourism Minister Renee Webb can do without an unusual plug for the Island given in adult magazine Black Portfolio.

An eagle-eyed reader bought the June, 2004 issue featuring model Soleil who purportedly comes from the Island and is keen to share its delights while also revealing her own abundant charms.

Soleil enthuses about her days lazing on the ?spectacular beaches? before hitting the ?upscale bars and nightclubs?.

She goes on about Bermuda being an island where ?you always find folks looking to kick back and take things easy?.

?So it suits me fine living there ? there?s never a shortage of handsome men eager to make time with me,? she adds saucily.

Soleil goes on to boast in the American magazine of her massage skills which helps pressured, high profile men unwind ? presumably a nod to the Island?s international business sector. rang Tourism Minster Renee Webb to gauge her reaction on the unusual media exposure. She requested a faxed copy before commenting.

Asked for her reactions afterwards she said: ?My gracious, that was a little too much for me! Clearly it isn?t the type of publicity or activity we want to support in promoting Bermuda needless to say. It?s too graphic.

?I can only imagine what the rest of the pictures look like. I am not adverse. Whether people want to do this is their business.?

Asked if all publicity was good publicity Ms Webb said: ?Not really.?

She explained Bermuda wasn?t into sex tourism. ?That?s a niche market certain destinations promote ? the Dominican Republic is known for it. We want to promote Bermuda in a way that is realistic.?

It was far from clear if Soleil?s claims about her Bermudian roots were true or whether the editorial had been concocted.

A quick straw poll revealed two people who recognised Soleil but most said they had never seen her.

Asked if she had ever seen Soleil Ms Webb said: ?Not at all. She might be a Bermudian or it could be just a story line.?

It is not the first time Bermuda has hit the headlines for sexual antics.

In the 1990s when law professor Anita Hill charged Supreme Court nominee Judge Clarence Thomas with acts of sexual harassment it sparked a media frenzy which ended up unearthing the fact that male porn star ?Long Dong Silver? who shot to fame in the late ?70s and early ?80s, was a Bermudian.
