Bermudians visited the Parliamentary Registry office yesterday in a last-minute bid to ensure their voice will be heard on election day.

With the deadline for voter registration set for 5 p.m. last night, several people chose to come into the office and register in person rather than online. Most people said the process was a straightforward one.

Only a few complained that the Government website designed to aid registration was not up to scratch.

"I tried online but I wasn't successful and I couldn't find out my assessment number. The website is a waste of time and it shouldn't have broken down like that," said one frustrated woman, who asked to remain anonymous.

Restaurant manager Paul Clarke said: "I guess the reason why people leave it so late is because they procrastinate. I just came in to make sure I'm registered."

Newly qualified dental hygienist Zuri Samuels, who said she had only left it to the last minute because she had been away studying, said: "It's a pretty smooth process and the people here are very helpful in explaining everything. It's your country and it's your voice and it's in everyone's interest to vote. It would be silly not to."

Meanwhile, Vicki Clarke said: "I had to come in and re-register because I just changed my name. I want to vote because I'm tired of them fighting all the time."
