At Andr? (AJ) Wilson's family's greatest time of loss, his mother Veronica Phillips accepts that he was acting like a typical 14-year-old boy.

"He had a short life, but a full life," she said.

Of the accident which claimed her son's life, she and her husband Asquith Phillips said: "It was innocent play.

"It was typical 14-year-old behaviour to try to ride a bike before they were of age.

"It was no malice. They are at that age when they want to experiment and the one time he did it ? he knocked himself out."

His father, Andr? Wilson (Sr.) said: "You can't tell a 14-year-old not to ride a bike, especially when the key is there and the parents aren't."

Mrs. Phillips said Andr? died on Wednesday morning after the Yamaha RC 100 he was riding had fell on top of him, Monday afternoon.

She said Andr? suffered a punctured lung, damage to his liver and massive internal bleeding that could not be stopped.

She said Tyrone had initially told her he had been riding a bike when he got into the accident, but had not explained what kind of bike.

At about 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. on Tuesday she needed to find out what had happened and about 6 a.m. she went to Tyrone's house, which is three houses away, to talk to him.

Mrs. Phillips asked him to tell her the truth.

"I asked 'was it a motorbike or was it a pedal bike'?" she said. Tyrone told her it was his dad's motorcycle and that he was allowed to ride it around the yard.

She said Tyrone said he had rode it and put it on the side, then AJ got on the bike rammed the gas and it must have sped over and hit the wall, and the weight of the bike fell on him.

"Tyrone came over picked up the bike, turned it off and took it back home," she said, "Then the other child picked AJ up and put him in a chair, but he couldn't sit properly and he went on the ground and laid down.

"But not knowing the story, I moved him as well, and when he said he wanted to go with me to the hospital, I dismissed the ambulance.

"And it just went from bad to worse, and... (then) he was gone. Just as fast as that."

She said when she called Tyrone she told him not to blame himself.

"I said you guys were friends and it was just a silly thing," she said.

"I told him that I wanted him to come and see AJ because he was not going to make it. He came and I hugged him and I took him inside to see him.

"He had his friend with him, which is good. He looked at him and he couldn't believe it. He hugged him in the hospital."

She said everything that Andr? said was now coming like a revelation to her.

"I realise now that when I first saw Tyrone after the accident he was in shock," Mrs. Phillips said as she cried.

"I know now that when we were going to the hospital and AJ said 'I'm sorry', I realise he knew how bad he was hurt and I think he knew he was probably going to die.

"And I believe that when he said 'Amen', he was thankful that I prayed."

A date for his funeral will be announced later.
