?It?s the Bermudian thing to do?
Throughout the summer hundreds of families pack up their belongings and enjoy weeks on end of camping at the Island?s various parks and beaches.
But there is a special breed of camper that restricts their roughing it to the Cup Match holiday weekend. They chose various locations all over the Island from Black Back in Somerset, to Shelly Bay Beach and all the way down to Clearwater Beach and set up camp for the duration of the holiday. this week caught up with a few campers in the west end as they set up tents and prepared for the next few days. Most of the campsites were empty on Wednesday morning, but a few campers were around to talk.
The Place family has been camping for about five years. Mr. Place (who would not give his first name) said they normally camp at Shelly Bay but this year they chose to picnic at Somerset Long Bay. He said the best part about camping was the outside atmosphere ? swimming and barbecuing. ?It gives you that family type of vibe (with) people coming together?.
He said him, his wife and small child will picnic at the park for just for the Thursday and Friday holiday. Eighty-three year old Eleanor Brangman said she has been camping for three or four years at Somerset Long Bay.
