Keetha Lowe

Keetha Lowe, a 41 year old mother of three, takes on labour leader Derrick Burgess for the Hamilton East poll next week. She grew up in the Hamilton Parish area but now lives in Devonshire. The single mother has made affordable housing a campaign focus, saying that no one should spend more than one quarter of income on rent or mortgage payments. Ms Lowe was a UBP candidate for the dual seat constituency Pembroke East in the 1993 general elections. She and her running mate Ramadhin Smith performed dismally scoring just 211 and 206 votes compared to the winners Health Minister Nelson Bascome and ruling party backbencher Ottiwell Simmons who garnered 938 and 865 votes respectively. This time around Ms Lowe will be running in the area she was born and raised in under an entirely new electoral system.
