The developer planning to convert the Lantana resort in Sandys into an upmarket spa and health complex said yesterday he expects the sale to be completed within three months.

Don Burkett of Pennsylvania-based Burkett and Associates said the deal to buy the closed Sandys complex was 90 percent complete, and would be finalised if Cabinet approves concessions under the Hotel Concessions Act.

He said his company had already received planning permission in principle, approval from the Ministry of Tourism, and consent in principle to build a yacht marina at the site. "Now we are moving to the last step, which is Hotel Concessions Act approvals, so we are 90 percent there," he told The Royal Gazette last night.

"We are still in the process of bringing everything together. We are at the point of bringing it to completion."

The resort closed in 1998 and was put on the market by owner John Young. Burkett and Associates plan to build a conference centre and luxury spa resort, with a tennis club, golf academy, and 35 yacht marina.
