Lawyers launch attack on cancer
All of the partners in the Mello Jones & Martin law firm will be travelling to Boston this weekend to don their sneakers for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.
Partner Juliana Snelling said last night the seven partners would be joining some 6,000 other walkers in the fundraiser for cancer research and treatment and cure of histiocytosis.
This is the 17th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk ? taking place on Sunday ? and each of the walkers is considered ?a hero? as they raise money to conquer cancer and to make a brighter future for those facing the disease world-wide.
The goal of the Jimmy Fund Walk ? which has been raising funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since 1948 ? is to raise $4.75 million this year.
Partners decided to participate in the walk this year after Ms Snelling?s two-year-old son, Jude was diagnosed with a rare cancer-like disease, Langerhans Cell Histiocytotis (LCH).
Ms Snelling said so far they managed to raise $50,000, which included a $25,000 anonymous donation in honour of Jude, who has been battling cancer at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
Jude?s brother and sister even donated their ?tooth fairy? money towards the walk.
Ms Snelling said the response from the community had been wonderful with over 110 donations coming in.
Each of the partners will be walking either 13 or three miles along the Boston Marathon Route and since they have raised more than $750 per walker, they were allocated special ?Pacesetter? status T-shirts for the walk.
Partners participating include Saul Froomkin, Michael Mello, Alan Dunch, Peter Martin, Andrew Martin, Hill de Frais and Ms Snelling.
For more information on MJM?s participation in the Jimmy Fund Walk see the company?s website at www.mjm.bm.
The firm will be accepting donations until the end of November.
Online credit card donations can be made on the team webpage www.jimmyfundwalkregistration.org or by sending a cheque payable to Mello Jones & Martin (memo: Jimmy Fund Walk) to Mello Jones & Martin, Reid House, 31 Church Street, Hamilton, HM 12, c/o J. Snelling.
