London-bound plane diverted after illness

A Castro Airlines plane heading to London from the Dominican Republic had to make an emergency landing in Bermuda on Tuesday when a passenger reported chest pains.

The 47-year-old female passenger was conveyed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where she was stabilised, and released yesterday morning.

Inhabitants of an Ardsheal Drive, Devonshire, residence also had a close call on Monday afternoon when a clothes dryer caught fire.

The complainant told Police that her housekeeper placed some clothing in the gas dryer before going on with other work. The complainant smelled smoke, she told Police, and discovered that the dryer was on fire.

The maintenance man unplugged the dryer and threw water on the flames, extinguishing the fire, while the complainant called the Police and Fire Service, who came and assessed the situation.
