Magistrate sets bail at $50,000

A 35-year-old man appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday to face indictable charges of importation and possession of cannabis worth over half a million dollars. Jamal Hart, of Frog Lane, Hamilton Parish, is charged with importing cannabis on July 13. He is also charged with possession of the drug and a scale to weigh it on. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves told Hart to surrender all of his travel documents and set bail at $50,000 with a surety.
Hart, one of Bermuda?s top road runners who represented the Island at the CAC Cross-Country championships, is due back in court on January 7 for mention and his trial will be held in Supreme Court.
