A man charged with threatening a womanwith a baseball bat was warned to stay away from her when he appeared in Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Forrest Nusum, 44, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Vera Hayward, of Warwick on March 30.

He did plead guilty to entering her home but did so after asking Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves for some advice.

"She had possession of my items ? is it lawful or unlawful entry?" he asked.

"I'm not here to give you advice," said Mr. Greaves.

Nusum was released on $1,000 bail. His trial will start on May 25.
