A motorist with 46 previous traffic convictions has been fined $4,480 after pleading guilty to a further five offences yesterday.

Prosecutor Shade Subair called for the jailing of 24-year-old Ocean Avenue Devonshire man Aaron Pace after he confessed to two counts of driving while banned.

Pace also faced one count of driving at 73 kph, one count of driving without a vehicle licence and two counts of perverting the course of justice.

He was picked up on October 4 last year doing 73 kph in Parsons Road, Pembroke but he gave a false name of Daniel Simons.

Mr. Simons was later arrested and held for some time before Police at a court hearing realised the wrong man had been arrested.

Pace tried the same trick again when stopped in a routine check on South Road on March 16 but was rumbled by Police who arrested him.

It was found Pace was still banned for previous offences.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: "It's amazing. You have more convictions than you have age.

"They should have a new statute for you."

The court heard that Pace has been picked up six times on the same day for traffic offences.

Pace escaped an immediate custodial sentence after his girlfriend appeared in court and provided documents which showed he had insurance for the car.

Mr. Greaves chided the girlfriend for letting Pace borrow the car but she claimed she didn't know he was banned from the road.

Again urging a custodial sentence, Ms Subair said Pace had no regard for the law and that the ploy of giving a false name to Police was causing a lot of inconvenience.

She said: "It's an increasing problem and I urge you take this seriously."

Mr. Greaves fined Pace $500 for each offence of attempting to pervert the course of justice, $1,000 for each offence of driving while banned, $750 for no vehicle licence and $730 for speeding.

Pace faced more than one year in prison for non payment by the end of business yesterday.

The Royal Gazette understands the fine was paid in full.
