A Sandys man was fined $400 in Magistrates? Court on Monday after pleading guilty to assault.

Shakir Smith, 18, of Cochrane Road, admitted to causing bodily harm to a man outside the entrance of White Hill Field, Sandys, on October 12, 2004.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith said at 5.15 p.m. that day Smith punched a man in the face who was standing near the gate then ran off.

?The victim was punched in the mouth and was bleeding as a result,? she said.

Smith?s lawyer Charles Richardson said his client was a victim of a Molotov cocktail throwing incident, but his client and the victim had now ?mended their fences?.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith $400, which he had to pay immediately or spend 40 days in prison.
