A man landed in jail for nine months after pleading guilty to attempting to break into Bermuda?s Historical Society last week ? but claimed shattering the window saved him from breaking another man?s neck.

Zikomo Wolde Parsons, 24, yesterday admitted that he had shattered the window of the Queen Street building some time between 3.30 p.m. Thursday, June 11 and 8.30 a.m. the following morning.

?Yeah I did it, I just felt like jumping through the window and taking everything,? Parsons told Police after he was arrested later that week.

But in Court on Friday the talkative Parsons told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves that he had broken the window instead of getting into a fight with another person, whom he did not name.

?If you want the truth, I was irritated. So I broke the thing. Did you want me to snap some guy?s neck,? Wolde told the court .

?What you going to do? Lock me up for for six or seven years? Go ahead,? Parsons told Mr. Greaves.

Mr. Greaves sentenced Parsons, who has a 1993 conviction for breaking into a home, to nine months in jail.
