A man facing eight charges of stealing items worth over $7,000 was remanded in custody yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Wayne Thomas (Boo Boo) Moran, 45, of Cox's Hill Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and entering, shop breaking, stealing a handbag, stealing from boats moored at Mill Creek and for the theft of tools.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines told the court that on or about April 22, Moran stole an electric guitar - a Fender Stratocaster worth $1,500 belonging to Keith Phillips.

Between June 1 and June 30, Moran stole a ladies purse and contents valued at $150.

The court also heard that Moran stole a Metabo Hammer Drill and drill bits, a DeWalt electric drill, a five-piece ratchet set and an eight-inch torpedo spirit level valued at $500 from Bermuda Elevator Systems.

Mr. Caines said that on June 10, Moran broke into Fantasea Workshop and stole tools worth $1,590.

Also between June 30 and July 6 he broke into the vessel Scatteraction and stole a Penn International Spinner Rod and a bottle of Cockspur Rum, together worth $424.

He also stole a Pioneer Receiver and a Sony DVD Player worth $550 from the Elegant Lady that was on dry dock at Mill Creek.

Mr. Caines said he also stole a Spectra Precision Laser Level and a DeWalt Drywall drill worth(?) $2,150 from Greymane Contracting Limited on November 30, 2001.

He also stole another DeWalt Power drill and bits worth $150 from the Fantasea Workshop.

Mr. Caines said the a member of the public handed in the fishing rod to Police saying that it had been sold to him by (Boo Boo) Moran. After Moran was caught, he told Police that he had gone on the crime spree to support his drug and alcohol addiction.

Mr. Caines suggested that Moran be incarcerated immediately.

Duty counsel Patrick Doherty said: "This is clearly a case for Drug Court, until this spree he was crime free. He has problems with crack and drink."

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves decided to remand Moran in custody until December 18, pending a Social Inquiry Report and a report from the Bermuda Assessment and Referral Clinic (BARC).
