Management vow to boost security

Security at The Swizzle on South Shore will be ramped up in response to Thursday?s drive-by shooting, management confirmed last night.

Late night opening hours will also be reduced and loiterers moved on in as part of a raft of new safety measures.

A management source, who asked not to be named, said he was concerned that the shooting happened so close to the venue, which only opened a month ago.

He said it was lucky that nobody died and said he was glad no staff and customers were caught up in the gunfire, but he distanced the pub from the violence.

?We want to make sure that our staff and customers are safe,? he told as he confirmed security would be beefed up. ?This is not an incident that?s related to anything that happened here. We do not know where this came from or how it escalated.?

He said that The Swizzle would now have security on patrol seven days a week. Before the shooting, one security worker was employed between Thursday and Sunday.

?Now there will be a security team of up to three people between Thursday and Sunday, from about 8.30 p.m. until the bar closes.

?During the rest of the week we will have a single security person here. Normally we do not have any.?

The manager said that the bar normally closes at 1 a.m. This will now be switched to midnight until further notice.
